My virgin eyelash extension experience

I must say my first eyelash extension experience is quite disappointing, but an experience, nonetheless. I’ve been mulling over it for months and months and maybe even years.

I finally had the chance to ask someone properly who has been doing eyelashes for quite a while. They should last about a month. She doesn’t put on any eye make up though and doesn’t seem like she put on make up in general as well. She spends about $70 each time, depending on whether she is doing a touch-up or a full set of lashes, so that makes it like $280 each month.

Putting on eye make up can affect the longevity of the eyelash extensions as they may contain substances which break down the glue and generally if you need to remove the eye make up you may also by rubbing the remover on the lashes.

Well, so to my horror, my lashes only lasted me less than a week. My appointment was delayed as I was the last customer and I booked it on the day itself using Vanity as there was a very good promotion and I decided to book it on a whim, on 21 July 2018.

Basically I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do, when she showed me the photos of the different types of lashes they all looked the same to me. I ended up doing a more natural look with a 10mm C-curl lash. I would like to do something more dramatic next time!

I think I fell asleep during the procedure. It was initially a bit uncomfortable as she had to stick my lower lashes and my eyelid. When she applied the first few lashes she kind of poked my eyelids and they felt ticklish. I had to sign an indemnity form. They did sort of explain the risks of the eyelash extension – risk of infection, risk of sitting on the chair for too long blah blah (can’t remember the rest). I did sit in the chair not daring to move for 1.5 hours, so I guess it is a real risk! If I had more lashes I might have to sit longer!

I loved my extensions. I got a free spoolie and a sponge to wash my face – no water contact with the lashes for 6 hours at least. When I squinted and when I squeezed my eyes together though, the eyelash extensions started to pop out. I later realised it could be that she didn’t put enough gap between my eyelid and the extension. Anyway most of the eyelashes dropped out within the week. I made an appointment to touch up my lashes the following friday on 27 July 2018.

As it turns out the shop was not opened when I got there, I waited from 12 to 1230 pm (during lunch time), thinking they might have gotten the timing wrong. However there was still nobody. I texted the boss? attending to the Whatsapp number and she was really kind enough to give me a free full set of lashes. I requested to go to their other branch, cos I really really wanted it to be done that day instead of coming back another day and hence wasting my lunch time that day.

I did a mix of 11mm and 12 mm C-curl. This lasted longer, but still didn’t last for 1 month.

I tried to maintain, I did try. But at the end of 3 weeks when more than half the lashes dropped out I tried to get the lashes to drop faster. I found the best method was to use an eyelash curler. Haha! There were like 2 strands of the extensions left and using mascara and using cleansing oil seriously did not get rid of the last 2 eyelash extensions fast enough.

I don’t think I will go back to that salon any time soon. I’m really thankful for the full set of lashes and the experience though.
